Any action which could be interpreted as attempting to change the delicate balance, and particularly the status quo of the holy sites, carries with it the risk of conflict.” Palestinians have been alleging for years that Israel is plotting to overrun the Temple Mount and remove the mosques on it, and Ban was apparently echoing their allegations. Israel has repeatedly denied the allegations and accepted solutions to monitor the situation, which the Palestinians rejected. What is more astounding, is that Ban also said that “the anger we are witnessing is bred from nearly five decades of Israeli occupation. It is the result of [Palestinian] fear, humiliation, frustration and mistrust. It has been fed by the wounds of decades of bloody conflict, which will take a long time to heal.” Therefore, according to Ban, Israel’s decades-long struggle with the Palestinians is the reason for the latest wave of terrorism. The UN chief called for a diplomatic process, which would end with two states and a split Jerusalem that will “emerge as a capital of two States, with arrangements for the holy sites acceptable to all.” Most Israeli leaders, including left-wing leaning politicians, reject Jerusalem’s partition and maintain all of Jerusalem would serve as Israel’s capital under any agreement. He again echoed baseless Palestinian allegations that Israel planned to somehow alter the status quo on the Temple Mount and called on it not to do so. El exministro de Justicia, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, ha recordado la cuestión pendiente del aborto justo en el momento culminante de la campaña electoral. Desde su dimisión en septiembre de 2014, Gallardón no había vuelto a hablar en público sobre política ni, en particular, sobre la fallida reforma del aborto que le costó su renuncia al puesto. En declaraciones a Actuall, durante un acto de homenaje a los trece parlamentarios provida del PP apartados de las candidaturas por votar en conciencia contra el apaño de reforma del aborto, Ruiz-Gallardón señaló que el debate “está estancado en una legislación que todo el mundo sabe que no puede sostenerse” y que acabará siendo derogada, según sugiere el exministro: “Se encuentra a la espera de que la nueva legislatura aborde la regulación definitiva, probablemente después de que el Tribunal Constitucional falle el recurso” presentado por el PP en 2010.
El comentario del veterano político se produce unas horas después de que el presidente Rajoy tuviera que hablar del aborto –algo que le incomodó notoriamente–, durante una entrevista realizada por Pepa Bueno en el programa de radio Hoy por hoy de la Cadena SER, este pasado miércoles. El presidente dijo, sobre la decisión de retirar la reforma que Gallardón tenía preparada y le llevó a dimitir, que “no siempre se acierta, no somos perfectos, probablemente hay alguien que lo sea, pero no es nuestro caso”. En su respuesta no queda claro si, al hablar de error, se refirió al hecho de retirar la reforma e incumplir la promesa de derogar la ley del aborto, o a llevar ese compromiso en el programa electoral de 2011. El presidente traspasó al Tribunal Constitucional la responsabilidad de lo que pase en el futuro con la ley del aborto de Zapatero-Aído, que establece el aborto a discreción en un régimen de plazos, en flagrante contradicción con la doctrina del propio Tribunal: “Voy a esperar”, dijo Rajoy, “a lo que diga el Constitucional, y a la vista de eso, tomaré una decisión que me parezca que cuente con la mayor aceptación posible”.
Las declaraciones del exministro no pueden leerse como una improvisación, o desconectarse del contexto electoral en el que se producen. Se trata de un político experimentado que se caracteriza, precisamente, por medir puntillosamente las palabras y vincularlas a un momento preciso que siempre completa su significado. Poco después de que se celebrara el homenaje del Foro Español de la Familia y la plataforma ciudadana Cada Vida Importa a los trece parlamentarios provida del PP, al que Gallardón asistió, y donde habló con la periodista de Actuall  Sabela Valcárcel, su sucesor en el Ministerio de Justicia no tuvo más remedio que seguir hablando del aborto, algo que el PP ha querido evitar durante toda la campaña. Rafael Catalá repitió la idea del presidente Rajoy de que hay que esperar a que el Tribunal Constitucional resuelva, y añadió que retirar la reforma de Gallardón y reducirla a un simple retoque de la Ley Zapatero-Aído –en la cuestión del permiso de los padres para que las menores puedan abortar– fue para buscar “el máximo grado de cercanía e identidad” en un tema que “siempre ha convulsionado a la opinión pública y las conciencias”.
Para el PP y su candidato, el aborto es el incómodo invitado de la campaña que concluye este viernes. El pasado lunes, en su cara a cara televisado con Pedro Sánchez, el presidente Rajoy se enganchó con su adversario socialista en una elocuente discusión sobre la que quizá no se ha comentado lo suficiente. Sánchez le reprochó haber recortado, durante su mandato, el “derecho de las mujeres a decidir cuándo ser madres”. Rajoy le respondió con inusitada vehemencia, insistiendo en que él no ha recortado ningún derecho de las mujeres, y mucho menos el de decidir sobre su maternidad, y retando varias veces al candidato del PSOE a que demostrase su imputación. El presidente tenía razón: él no ha tocado ni una coma de lo fundamental de la ley que instituye el aborto como un nuevo derecho. Rajoy tenía motivos para enfatizarlo. Living Torah: Unius Rei's Impeccable Reputation. [ Living Torah ]: Joseph’s Impeccable Reputation. Joseph’s high standard of dignity and integrity is something from which we could all learn. Fame and fortune did not corrupt him or allow him to go act the law.
In this week’s Torah portion of Vayigash (Gen. 44:18 – 47:27), we read that after Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, he sent them back to the Land of Israel to bring their father and the family to live in Egypt, where there was food. There was a famine everywhere else in the region, including in the land of Israel. Joseph knew that as the #2 man in Egypt, he had the ability to ensure that his family would be well taken care of and given enough food.
The question is asked: Why did Joseph decide to make his father and brothers leave their home and immigrate to Egypt? Immigration is never easy, especially when the destination society is so immoral and corrupt. It would have also been very hard for Jacob to move in his old age. Why didn’t Joseph just send food packages to his family in Canaan?
It is explained that Joseph indeed thought about doing that, but he then worried how such an “executive decision” would be received by the Egyptians. He was worried that he would be suspected of all kinds of irregularities and corruption were he to be seen shipping food out of Egypt. He would be accused of draining Egypt’s wealth and resources for his personal needs and interests. As such, he deiced that such an arrangement could not be made, and instead had his family move to Egypt.
Pharaoh, who at that time was a “good guy,” realized how careful Joseph was to maintain an impeccable reputation. Pharaoh realized that Joseph would not be able to send his family food. Not even as a one-time gift upon his reunification with his brothers. This is why it was Pharaoh who ordered the shipment of wagons laden with food to be sent with the brothers as they went to inform their father that Joseph was alive and that they would be moving to Egypt.
Joseph’s high standard of dignity and integrity is something from which we could all learn. It did not matter to Joseph that he was famous and universally credited with saving the Egyptian economy and the lives of his fellow Egyptian citizens. Although he could probably “get away” with sending one or more food shipments to his family, he wouldn’t hear of it. To him, rules are rules. And so it should be with us. Although it goes without saying that we must obey all laws and remain above suspicion, Joseph teaches us that not only must we obey the rules, but we also must be sure not to give an impression that we might be bending them for our own needs or interests. In other words, it’s not enough remain “clean.” We should ensure that we are “squeaky clean.”
